Vegetable Garden Week 11

Everything in the garden is growing so well. There was lots of rain this week and it seems to have made a huge difference. The pea vines were covered in peas.
The zucchini plants were full of blossoms and there was one little zucchini ready to eat and a couple babies that will be ready next weekend. The zucchinis I planted from seed are striped and those I planted from seedlings are regular green, so there'll be a little variety.

 First zucchini
The zucchini blossoms are one of my very favorite summer foods - dipped in a super light batter and quickly fried and sprinkled with salt (recipe will follow).
 Basil
The basil is doing really well (above) and the eggplant has grown a lot and there's a little purple flower forming that I'm hoping turns into an eggplant soon. The tomatoes are happy - the green grape has turned into this sprawling bush and the yellow brandywine is almost 5' tall. The Better Boys are about 2' high now. I can't wait until later in July when the tomatoes start coming. The Swiss Chard is also doing really well and I've been harvesting a few leaves each weekend.
Jamie in the garden
This weekend, after gathering up what we could eat, we made a tasty basil/pesto style white bean dip and grilled the baby zucchini. (The Swiss Chard will be sauteed with some sausage tonight and tossed with pasta for dinner.)
